Hurdles Coaching

We provide coaching for both the short (60-100 mtr) and long hurdle (300-400 mtr) events with a major focus on technique and style. The sessions are programmed and supervised by Lead Coach Graham who is a Level 4 (Elite) Sprint and Hurdle Coach and Caitlyn Hicks is the assistant coach, for the Juniors and Developing Squads. (refer Coach’s Profiles for details) We accommodate three squads including:
  • Young Little A’s (7-11)
  • Developing (12-15)
  • Advanced / Elite
Note: places in the advanced squad are limited and commitment standards are expected. We would be expecting an Advanced hurdler to be also involved in Sprint Training For the younger groups our main aim is to build their confidence and skill and enjoyment of this unique event. For the Developing Group, our aim is to continue and build on their “technique” whilst encouraging the athlete to develop other aspects of the event such as speed and conditioning. For the advanced / Elite Group it is about combining the above to qualify for State and National Events and Finals. Our weekly training programmes are designed to progress the athlete through the season, leading to a peak of all aspects of their event for their major Championship of the season. We recommend considering our sprint sessions to compliment the technical training. All Hurdle sessions are held at Roxborough Park, Baulkham Hills on a Wednesday night. Additional Sessions are available in the Athletic Season on application or notification. Sessions throughout the year focus on:
  • Technique – Technique – Technique
  • Strength and Conditioning including Med Ball / Hill and Step Workouts / Plyometrics / Resistance Training (age appropriate)
  • Speed Development including Acceleration and Max Speed
  • Intensive Tempo to build the support base for Speed Endurance
  • Speed Endurance for both the short and longer events
