Middle Distance Coaching

Our middle distance squads are for athletes from 7 up to adults who enjoy running 800m-1500m distances in the Summer Track Season and X Country in the Winter. Our sessions are adaptable and can accommodate those who would also like to improve their all – round conditioning for ball sports such as AFL – Netball – Rugby League – Football – Hockey  

The sessions are programmed and taken or supervised by Graham who is a Level 3 Middle and Long Distance Performance Coach (Athletics Australia) and Level 4 (Elite) Sprint Coach and Sidney Burrell is the assistant coach for the Young and Developing Squads. (refer Coach’s Profiles for details)

We accommodate three squads including:

  • Young Little A’s (7-11)  
  • Developing (12-15) 
  • Advanced / Elite

Note: places in the advanced squad are limited and commitment standards are expected. 

Our weekly training programmes are designed to progress the athlete through the season, leading to a peak of all aspects of their event for their major Championship of the season. We train at many different, local locations with variable terrains, particularly in the X Country season. Sessions throughout the year focus on the following however they do vary to compliment the event’s progressive demands throughout the season:

  • Strength and Conditioning including Med Ball / Hill and Step Workouts / Plyometrics / Resistance Training (age appropriate) 
  • Speed Development and Technique
  • Speed Endurance and Maintenance
  • Anaerobic and Aerobic Sessions
